I turned 25 on the 26th, a big number, I believe, when it comes to birthdays. I told my parent some camping stuff, some gift cards or cash would be great for Christmas and my birthday. In the past, they have been relatively good at keeping birthday and christmas presents separate i.e. not giving a christmas gift and birthday gift that go together. This year I got all camping stuff for Christmas and a gift card to get more camping stuff. To me, it would be like buying someone a coffee machine for Christmas, then filters and coffee for their birthday, and saying to them, "It's for the coffee machine I got you for Christmas."

I am in my 60's and don't believe I have a big ego but none of my children called and I am feeling down. This is not the first year this has happened. I usually wait for it to pass –this year I couldn’t. I have always tried to do right with all my children and family by sending BD cards, presents, phone calls, etc. and being helpful and positive. It hasn’t worked well for me or apparently, them. My birthday is a week before Christmas and all my life it has never been much of a priority for anyone I know – from immediate family one year I got a cupcake and when I was growing up, I remember getting a pencil. The holidays are never a particularly happy time for me. In fact, I dread it, and can’t wait for it to be over.

One christmas-birthday friend got one earring in one box, wrapped in Christmas paper, and another earring in another box, wrapped in birthday paper. Tacky, even if the earrings were expensive.
